Below: Another example of the kindness and gentleness of 'A' Division Officers. These pictures presented by Ex Ch/Insp 'A' Roy Smith. His description of events are below the images.

Inspector Roy Smith 'Leading' His Men!!

"You Are Not Obliged To Say Anything Unless"............

Roy's description of these events....."I am attaching a couple of photographs taken outside No 10 Downing Street whilst I was trying to arrest a Black gentleman. In those days the public were allowed into Downing Street and on this particular day there was a demonstration against the visit of The Prime Minister of Nigeria who was obviously not very popular with some elements. I think he was assassinated when he returned to his country. Anyway the person I eventually arrested, had kicked Supt. Coventry on the leg and also a young PC in the face fracturing his cheekbone. I managed to arrest him with some help as you can see. In the first picture that is me laying on top of him and in the second photo, that is me with the stranglehold on him and the one in flat cap with back to camera was Ch. Insp. Jarvis ( I believe.) These photos are taken from The Daily Telegraph of Dec.15th 1965".

Above and below Images presented by Ex PC 893'A'/162613 Geoff CADMAN. February 1974.... On the steps of No. 10 Downing Street. ABOVE: As Jeremy Thorpe arrives Geoff is at the rear of picture, PS 77'A' George Garnham to the left of Jeremy Thorpe MP, and Insp Dave Mabon to the right. The picture appeared in The Sunday Telegraph around the time the then Prime Minister, Edward Heath, failed to get a majority in the General Election and asked Jeremy Thorpe (Liberal Leader) for support. This was not forthcoming and Mr. Heath moved out the very next day (piano and all). BELOW: As Jeremy Thorpe departs Downing Street, PC 256'A' Paul Radzan is on extreme left. Geoff is looking a little concerned because his gun has 'escaped' from its holster and may drop to the floor in front of the World's press. email Geoff: cadmanganda@btopenworld.com

Below: 3 Images presented by Ex PC 197 'A'/153146 Bob Holden

1960's O/S Buckingham Palace. Bob Holden & His Father a retired Police Inspector from Rotherham County Borough

Above: 1960's Downing Street... Bob on the right and Bruce KEAN Ex PC 162 'A'/152462 who returned to Scotland in 1970

1969: Buckingham Palace. Bob with his back to us (wearing the then issued 'Noddy' helmet) extricates a 'Roman Centurion' from the Palace gates. Bob says that the 'Centurion' got a conditional discharge and was the 'nicest' person he ever arrested. The 'Centurion' had paid for extra tough chains to thwart Bob's efforts but was most disillusioned when the bolt cutters cut through them with ease.
